Fire Station 50

University City, CA

Fire Station 50 sits on the idyllic Rose Canyon in the University City neighborhood of San Diego, CA. Devised as a 3-story structure to minimize its footprint and diminish impact to the canyon and vegetation, it is surrounded by native, non-invasive, drought-tolerant landscaping that’s maintained by the firefighters. The 12,000 SF facility includes three apparatus bays, a sleeping area for 10 firefighters, a kitchen, dining area day room, “ready room,” and gym/training room. are located on the top floor along with a large outdoor terrace, capitalizing on the light, air and views of the canyon. Housing features including a massive rooftop terrace create a functional and uplifting environment for its residents. The project is targeted for LEED Silver.
