The UC San Diego Pepper Canyon amphitheater is a multi-function performance venue for both students and professionals that is part of UCSD’s new vision in creating a ‘grand entrance’ to the University. With the goal of creating a gateway that will blend art, culture, entertainment, dining, education, and research, the 3,000-seat outdoor amphitheater will be capable of supporting various public performance types such as classical quartets, theatrical dance, impromptu theater, student DJ’s, and large-scale rock/pop concerts.
A custom-designed acoustic shell serves as part of its stage, optimizing sound movement throughout the outdoor venue. Shade canopy poles are discreetly located throughout the space to support even the most complex stage rigging, audio-visual systems, and broadcasting needs. The park doubles as seating for the amphitheater and outdoor lectures, or as a gathering space for events and exhibits. The project serves as a true testament to the interdisciplinary collaboration between the Arts and Sciences and is a keystone landmark that connects several neighboring departments.
