Scripps Crossing Pedestrian Bridge

LA Jolla, CA

This bridge spans one of San Diego’s most scenic routes, and provides a key pedestrian link between the University of California, San Diego and Scripps Institution of Oceanography campuses. The bridge is suspended above La Jolla Shores Drive, supported by cables that hang asymmetrically from a single pylon, anchoring the bridge to the hill on the east side while allowing it to rest lightly on the west. The slender cross section of walkway and the thin reflective cables create a structural design that is intentionally transparent to maintain the spectacular view corridors. At night, recessed lighting illuminates the cables and upper pylon, allowing the bridge to float delicately above the road.
